Like MacArthur Said

A tweeter just posted this picture of a whiteboard in the astronaut ready room:

Like Like General MacArthur’s promise of “I shall return,” American astronauts are not meekly accepting the current state of affairs: that the United States, for the first time in my lifetime, lacks the ability to put its people into space.

We have private ventures, we have unmanned space exploration, sure, but we all can see something is now missing. And we have a hope that one day we’ll go back into space without hitching a ride with other country’s programs.

Perhaps the Return to the Moon program, canceled by this administration, will return with a new administration. Or even a manned Mars program.

We cannot give up. It goes against human nature not to reach and dream, and especially against the pioneering nature of Americans.

I've won a spot for the STS-135 NASA Tweetup. I'm going to try to document the experience.
