Shuttle Stamp Covers

In the days preceding the final launch, KSC accepted stamped envelopes to hand cancel on the big day. They sold decorated envelopes and stamps (the Mercury issue with Alan Shepard) to make the covers there, but I presume they accepted your own stamped envelopes. I sent several on Wednesday the 6th and some more on Friday the 8th, the actual launch day. The ones I sent Friday arrived yesterday at my house in TN, and are now final launch covers. I am guessing the ones I sent Wednesday are taking longer because the addresses were hand written.

The cancel, besides having the date July 8, 2011, says “For Benefits On Earth” and has a space shuttle inside a triangle.

And to the anonymous lady at the gate of the KSC Visitor’s Center who offered to take my envelopes to the gift shop (so I didn’t need to buy an entry ticket), THANK YOU.
